I just LOVE dresses.
You probably already know this by now if you have been following this blog for a while. Quite simply, dresses make dressing easy.
Just pick one piece from your wardrobe, add a pair of shoes and voila, you are done!
Another of my own guiding principles for style, is to wear anything I choose day or night. I dress to suit my mood and how I want to feel, and I am as comfortable wearing night pieces during the day as I am in the evening.
A dress like this can work for either day or night. During the day in the UK, I pair it with navy or black tights, and knee high boots. In the evening it’s bare legs and heels. These nude heels are from Gianvito Rossi and I wrote about them in last week’s style post here.
The dress is by Self Portrait. An East London label set up by young designer Han Chong in 2013, it filled a gap in the market for affordable tailored evening wear and especially decorative feminine dresses.
These dresses are perfect date dresses, wedding guest wear and cocktail or party dresses. Of course I wear mine during the day too!
Much copied now, the originals are worth the investment (around £280-400 on average), because of the quality of cut and fabric. Miraculously for me, this dress has not been altered at all and fit like a glove straight on. Amazing!
Self Portrait Dresses feel beautiful and special to wear and each season there are new shapes and colours. Without exception, every woman I have seen wearing one looks fabulous! (I have done quite a few photoshoots with these dresses now and they always look amazing!).
Because the dress itself is so decorative and intricate, I have paired it with simple crystal drop stud earrings. You really don’t want anything to be competing with a dress like this, so simple studs work well. These earrings are the Crystal Dot Earrings from Karen Millen.
